The Role: Our client is seeking an experienced Banksman to join their team for a project-based international assignment in Helsinki, Finland. This role is focused on the safe coordination and control of lifting operations on-site, acting as the key point of communication between crane operators and ground personnel. You will play a critical role in ensuring all lifting activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with site procedures, while also supporting and guiding personnel on best practices in signalling and movement of loads.
Project Assignment – Finland: As part of this role, you will be required to travel to Helsinki, Finland for a number of months to support a major client project. The primary focus will be on coordinating lifting operations and maintaining strict safety standards across site. During this time, you will:
Direct and control crane and lifting operations using standard hand and radio signals
Ensure safe movement of loads around site, minimising risk to personnel and equipment
Act as the main point of contact between crane operators and site teams
Monitor lifting activities to ensure compliance with safety procedures and method statements
Assist with general lifting operations alongside rigging teams where required
Support site teams in maintaining high safety and operational standards
Accommodation and flights will be fully covered. Full training will be provided in advance. Candidates must be comfortable working and living abroad for an extended period. While based in Helsinki, you will have the opportunity to earn €1,000 net per week, with all living costs covered.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and direct lifting operations safely and efficiently
Communicate clearly with crane operators using approved signalling methods
Maintain full visibility of loads and ensure safe load paths at all times
Ensure exclusion zones are respected and enforced
Monitor site conditions and adapt lifting plans where necessary
Assist with lift planning and risk assessments where required
Train and support on-site personnel in safe banksman/signalling practices
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and site procedures
The Person:
Proven experience working as a Banksman / Slinger Signaller
Valid banksman or slinger/signaller certification (essential)
Strong understanding of lifting operations and site safety
Experience working with cranes and heavy lifting equipment
Excellent awareness of surroundings and risk management
Strong communication skills, both verbal and via signalling
Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to travel internationally and stay abroad for extended periods
