The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller / Finance Manager to lead the finance function of a well-established and growing organisation. This is a hands-on role responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, payroll oversight and providing commercial financial insight to support business performance. The successful candidate will work closely with senior management, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting and effective decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare monthly management accounts within agreed deadlines.
Produce quarterly financial reports for senior leadership.
Manage year-end accounts preparation and external audit process.
Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
Produce regular revenue and financial performance reports.
Complete VAT returns and ensure all statutory returns are submitted accurately and on time.
Lead the annual budgeting process and prepare rolling financial forecasts.
Analyse financial performance against budget and provide meaningful variance analysis.
Support department managers by providing financial reporting and commercial insights.
Develop, implement and maintain effective financial controls and procedures.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
Liaise with external auditors, banks and other professional advisors.
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control functions.
Review supplier reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
Oversee payroll processes and ensure payroll compliance.
Monitor departmental expenditure and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
Evaluate capital expenditure proposals and prepare financial analysis where required.
Skills & Experience Essential
Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CPA or CIMA).
Minimum 5 years' experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role.
Strong experience producing management accounts and financial reporting.
Experience managing budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
Knowledge of VAT, payroll and statutory compliance.
Strong audit preparation and financial controls experience.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
Experience within hospitality, leisure or service-based industries.
Experience using ERP or finance systems integrated with operational software.
